Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson Memorial

The Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson Memorial honours the legacy of the first Allsherjargóði of the Ásatrúarfélagið.

Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson (4 July 1924 – 23 December 1993) was a priest of the Ásatrúarfélagið, the main Icelandic Ásatrú organisation. He played a decisive role in the state recognition of Ásatrú (Norse paganism) as a legitimate religion in Iceland in 1973 and was the first Allsherjargóði, until his death in 1993.

Sveinbjörn exercised a decisive influence on the modern Ásatrú movement and pagan circles, which reached beyond the borders of his country to the European mainland and in the USA.

With the Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson Memorial, which is located in front of the Ásatrúarfélagið in Reykjavik (under construction at the time of writing this), his legacy is honoured.
