Dolmen D38 is located together with dolmen D39 and dolmen D40 in a clearing in the Valtherbos, just north of Emmen in the Dutch province of Drenthe.
The now-disappeared dolmen D39a was close by. D38 is the northernmost of the three dolmens. Two of the five capstones remain. The nine bearing stones and two keystones lie almost entirely under the sand. The shape of the cover mound is still recognizable. The entrance faced southwest. The dolmen is 8.0 meters long and 3.0 meters wide.
