Proleek (also known as Giant’s Grave or Giant’s Load) is an approximately 3.8 meters high portal tomb located in the townland of Proleek (in Irish, Proilíg) on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth, Ireland. James Fergusson (1808-1886) coined the term “Tripod Dolmen” for this particular type of megalithic tomb, which refers to a group of dolmens where the capstone rests on three supporting stones. In the case of the Proleek site, only two of the original three supporting stones and the capstone remained, with the third stone being added later. Such structures were constructed around 3000 BC.
