The Apenteich spring is located in Winzenburg, Lower Saxony, at the foot of Winzenburg Castle and Tiebenburg.
This spring feeds the Apenteiche, which were created in 1220 and drain into the Leine River through the Winzenburg Stream. These ponds were once a pagan ritual site where offerings dating back approximately 5000 years were discovered. In 1950, excavations unearthed a bronze needle, and subsequent work was conducted under the supervision of the responsible county archaeologist. Among the findings are a large flint axe, a stone axe, the remnants of three bronze rings, and a fibula, which is a garment fastener.
