The Loanhead of Daviot stone circle is a Recumbent Stone Circle, a type that is very common in the Grampian region of Scotland.
A characteristic of the Recumbent Stone Circle is a “lying stone” accompanied by two standing, high, often tapering “flank stones” that are located within the circle or close to the circle.
The Loanhead of Daviot is located northwest of Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire in Scotland near the village of Daviot. The circle consists of eight stones plus the accompanying stones on both sides of the 12-ton “resting stone”. The height of the stones in the circle increases in the direction of the resting stone. There are bowls on a stone east of the resting one.
