The Rekom Temple is located in the Alagirsky District of North Ossetia–Alania, Russia. It is a focal point for Scythian (neo) paganism. The Rekom temple boasts a rich history dating back to the 2nd century BCE. Having undergone multiple reconstructions over the years, with notable renovations in 1972 and 1995, the temple stands as a testament to the enduring cultural and religious heritage of the region. Dedicated to Uastyrdzhi, the revered “Patron of Men” known as Lægty Dzuar (Лæгты Дзуар), Rekom Temple holds a special significance as the focal point for the annual Rekomy Bærægbon (Рекомы Бæрæгбон) festival, celebrated with grandeur every mid-June.
The sanctuary, charged with spiritual energy, remains off-limits to women. In observance of this tradition, women conduct their religious rituals at a smaller temple located in close proximity. This unique division of sacred spaces adds a layer of complexity to the temple’s cultural tapestry, highlighting the nuanced rituals and traditions that have evolved over centuries at Rekom Temple.
