The Kvernes stone circle (also called Kvernes Tingsted or Tingkrets – dommerringer) is located in the town of Kvernes on the Norwegian island of Averøy. The stone circle was restored in 1993 and is located in the same spot as the original circle. The original circle was removed in 1929 during some construction work. Unfortunately, it couldn’t be determined whether the stones are the original ones.
Stone circles like these are often referred to as Thing circles or Judgment circles (Swedish: Domarring), where legal proceedings were held in up until modern times. Typically, they consist of an odd number of stones, usually 7 or 9. Not all of them have a central stone.
