Just outside of the Slovakian town of Turčianska Štiavnička, there is a wooden idol of Veles.
Veles (also Volos) is a god from Slavic mythology. He is the king of the underworld, death, trade and wealth and protector of the livestock, farmers, herders and travelling musicians. Veles is the opponent of the god Perunu and is represented as a snake, dragon, bear or wolf. He is associated with water.
