The Xagħra Stone Circle, also known as the Xagħra Stone Circle Complex, is a megalithic site located in Xagħra, on the Mediterranean island of Malta. It is believed to date back to the Neolithic period, around 3600-3200 BC, and is considered one of the oldest stone circle complexes in the world.

The site consists of several large stone structures, including standing stones and stone circles, arranged in a circular formation. The stones themselves are made of a local limestone and are quite large, with some standing up to 3.5 meters in height.

The purpose of the Xagħra Stone Circle is not entirely clear, although it is believed to have been used for religious or ceremonial purposes. Some archaeologists speculate that it may have been a site for the worship of a fertility goddess, while others believe it may have been used for astronomical observations.

In addition to the stone structures themselves, the site also contains evidence of human activity, including pottery and stone tools, as well as evidence of animal sacrifice.

The Xagħra Stone Circle is one of several megalithic sites on Malta, including the more famous Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra temples. These sites are recognized as some of the most important prehistoric monuments in the world and are a popular destination for tourists and archaeology enthusiasts.
